As we prepare to celebrate Sierra Leone @ 50, It has been my passion to see every school-going child in Sierra Leone benefit from a full course meal during lunchtime every single school day in the learning calendar. My view is very strong about this, as I am fully aware of the benefits of education for our future generation. Families in most neighbourhoods can hardly afford to provide lunch money for their children as they embark to school each day. Most school children go to school every day without eating anything at all, and stay for the more than eight-hour school day extremely hungry and stomach empty.
Concentration level in class as you know, in such circumstances, can be practically zero. Fighting the stress of hunger deprives anyone of serious attention to detail. For our children to learn, they need to stay hunger-free. Eating a healthy school meal is a great foundation for a child's education and future health. These children, after spending the whole school day without food, head for home with no hope of finding a decent meal. They sometimes have to fend for themselves as their parents simply cannot afford to provide for them. Our future as a nation relies on the sound education of our children. As a nation we can no longer afford to sit by and see our children being deprived of a good education because of hunger. We can do something about it. And Newstime Africa is today taking the initiative to launch the “ Meals for Schools Campaign” for every school-going child in Sierra Leone.
Our school children need your support as they prepare to engage the future of our country. We all owe it to them to ensure they don't stay hungry in school. Objective
Lunch is considered the most important meal of the day. And most children in Sierra Leone often spend their lunchtime with no food. Some parents just cannot afford to provide lunch for their kids.
